Join us on a fascinating 2.5 hour walking tour of Melbourne's first suburb.
Known originally as “New Town”, the first suburb designed outside the CBD, had many gentlemen’s terraces such as “Barcelona Terrace”.
Today an eclectic mix of mansions, trendy shops, schools and restaurants. We walk part of Brunswick Street viewing the “Labour in Vain” and the “Perseverance Hotel”, a wonderfully preserved bluestone “Edward Wills house” and “Glass Terrace”.
We pass the excellent 1936 Cairo Flats and pre 1858 “Grantown House” and the remarkable “Royal Terrace”. We discover the former Melbourne Veterinary College along with the birthplace of Mary McKillop.
The tour is conducted by Isabel Simpson, Freelance tour guide, Member TGA & Accredited Guide of Australia.
The meeting point is on the corner of Brunswick Street & Victoria Parade (East side, opposite former Eastern Hotel). The tour runs from 10.00am to 12.30pm.
The cost of the tour is $15.
